As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team.
About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take a lead role in the design and development of custom industrial machinery and automated systems.
This is a hands-on, end-to-end position where you will own mechanical design from concept through to build, testing, and installation. You will collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams, while also providing technical guidance to junior designers.
This role includes occasional international travel (~10%) to support installation, commissioning, and customer-facing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of custom automation equipment and industrial machinery from concept through to detailed design and production
- Develop innovative mechanical solutions that meet customer requirements while ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability
- Create and review 3D models, detailed drawings, and system layouts using parametric CAD tools
- Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design validation
- Ensure designs meet applicable safety standards and regulatory requirements
- Drive standardization and design improvements to optimize cost, quality, and product lifecycle
- Collaborate closely with controls, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Support fabrication, assembly, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and troubleshooting activities
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and design oversight to junior team members
- Interface with customers during design reviews, installations, and issue resolution
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean design practices and cost optimization
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical design of custom machinery, automation systems, or capital equipment
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and 3D parametric modeling
- Proven experience designing complex mechanical systems, ideally involving automation or robotics
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly, and system integration
- Experience performing engineering calculations, layout design, and tolerance analysis
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor junior designers
- Experience applying Lean principles in design and cost optimization
- Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, practical mindset
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including customer interaction
- SAP experience is an asset
- Valid driver’s license and passport (travel ~10%)
