Product Manager, Real-Time Grid Operations
As a Product Manager for Real-Time Grid Operations, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of operational technology in the utility industry. This position offers the opportunity to innovate at the intersection of operational reliability, cybersecurity, and digital transformation, addressing evolving security requirements, the growing demand for mobile-friendly interfaces, and the shift toward cloud-native and IoT-enabled architectures. You’ll help reimagine how utilities monitor, control, and optimize their grid by championing new user experiences, embedding AI-driven insights and co-pilot features, and enabling intelligent automation to support decision-making in complex environments. Working collaboratively with users and developers, you’ll explore how to make the platform smarter, more adaptive, and more impactful, supporting decarbonization efforts, renewable energy integration, and continuous innovation. By thinking creatively and building strong relationships, you will help deliver a next-generation platform that evolves with market demands and truly empowers its users.
Here is what a Product Manager will do:
- Own the product lifecycle for Distribution, Substation, and Renewables SCADA—from strategic planning to tactical execution.
- Define detailed product requirements and user stories based on customer feedback, market analysis, and cross-functional input.
- Collaborate with engineering, QA, UI/UX, documentation, and support teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of product features.
- Manage product components including:
- Real-time SCADA applications
- Telemetry protocol stacks (e.g., IEC 60870-5, DNP3, Modbus)
- Historian, dashboards, analytics, and reporting tools
- Industry-specific features for electric utilities and substations
- Web-based user interfaces, REST APIs, and mobile-friendly experiences
- Cloud initiatives, IoT and MQTT integrations
- Emerging AI-assisted functionalities for operational insights and decision support
- Engage with customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to understand workflows and operational use cases.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to inform product decisions.
- Prioritize product backlogs, support sprint planning, and make trade-offs between scope, schedule, and resources.
- Prepare and present product plans, roadmaps, and progress reports to executives and cross-functional teams.
- Act as a product evangelist both internally and externally, contributing to sales enablement and marketing content.
- Define and monitor product KPIs to ensure business impact and user adoption.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in product management or technical leadership roles in SCADA, OT/IT systems, or industrial automation.
- In-depth knowledge of SCADA systems in electric utilities, substations, or renewables.
- Experience with data historian solutions, APIs, user interface design, and analytics tools.
- Knowledge of protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-101/104, OPC, MQTT, etc.
- Strong business acumen and ability to balance customer needs with company strategy.
- Experience using product management tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.).
- Familiarity with Agile or hybrid software development practices.
- Ability to travel occasionally to customer sites, industry events, and company offices.
- Prior experience with other utility applications like OMS, DMS, DERMS, Renewables and related utility software platforms is an asset.
- Experience with Survalent SCADA / ADMS systems is considered an asset.
