Geneva Global Ethiopia (GGE) is an international non-governmental organization registered under the Agency of Civil Society Organization with certificate No 1724. GGE has been working in the education sector since 2011 G.C particularly on accelerated education program. Currently GGE is seeking candidates for a Security and Safety Officer role.
Position Summary:
The Security and Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of staff, assets, and operations for Geneva Global Ethiopia. This role involves assessing risks, developing safety protocols, and implementing security measures to protect personnel and property.
Key Responsibilities:
The Security and Safety Officer is responsible for:
- Risk Assessment: Conducting regular assessments of security risks and vulnerabilities at all operational sites.
- Safety Protocol Development: Creating and implementing safety protocols and emergency response plans.
- Training and Awareness: Training staff on security procedures and safety practices to foster a secure working environment.
- Incident Management: Responding to security incidents, conducting investigations, and reporting findings.
- Collaboration: Coordinating with local authorities, law enforcement, and emergency services to ensure compliance and preparedness.
Major Activities and Tasks:
The Security and Safety Officer will perform, coordinate, and/or support the following activities:
- Risk Assessment:
- Regularly reviewing security policies and practices to address emerging threats.
- Conducting site inspections and vulnerability assessments.
- Safety Protocol Development:
- Developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for security measures and emergency response.
- Communicating safety protocols clearly to all staff.
- Training and Awareness:
- Organizing training sessions for staff on safety and security awareness.
- Creating safety materials and updates for staff distribution.
- Incident Management:
- Investigating security breaches and incidents, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions.
- Implementing a reporting system for incidents and near misses.
- Collaboration:
- Establishing relationships with local law enforcement and emergency response teams.
- Participating in community security initiatives as appropriate.
The Security and Safety Officer may also perform other duties as assigned by the line manager or Country Director.
Qualities and Qualifications:
Geneva Global Ethiopia expects the Security and Safety Officer to:
- Possess relevant qualifications, experience, and skills to fulfill the responsibilities effectively.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Have excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English.
- Show ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
Qualification Summary
Education:
- BA Degree in Security Management, Safety, or related field.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in security management or safety roles.
- Previous experience in the NGO sector is an advantage.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of security protocols and emergency response procedures.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity.
