Job Application
Stakeholder Relations & Research Analyst

Are you early in your career, and looking to find something involving legislation or government where you can make a meaningful contribution?
Do you enjoy research, and networking with a wide variety of people?
If so, this might be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for, as we’re in the business of changing minds.
At Consulting Engineers of Ontario, we advocate on behalf of the consulting engineering firms whose expertise, projects, and services improve the lives and environments of Ontarians every single day. Whether it’s the clean water from your taps, or the roads you drive on, the work of our members influences every part of our daily lives – we advocate on their behalf to ensure they can perform their work at the highest level possible.
Now we’re looking to add a new member to our team, who is excited about our purpose and eager to grow their career.
That’s where you come in.
Stakeholder Relations & Research Analyst
You’ll have three key priorities in this role: helping our members and stakeholders, supporting our Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations, and conducting research.
You will be the front-line person fielding requests from our members for help with problematic contract and procurement issues. Over time, you’ll see patterns emerge and become efficient in coordinating solutions to address members’ most pressing issues.
You’ll support our Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations on strategic initiatives in a variety of formats including committee and stakeholder meetings, and consultations. Your knowledge and skill will increase quickly as you gain exposure and experience to our industry. You’ll find yourself in meetings with elected and public officials and top executives as CEO volunteers and staff work to influence positive outcomes.
The research you’ll be involved with will be both ongoing and project-based. You’ll keep an eye on matters that are important to our members, following policies and legislation that affect the industry. You’ll also do research around urgent issues that need to be addressed in a timely manner.
You’ll be perfect for this role if you’re:
- Curious – you have a journalistic quality, constantly asking “why?” to learn more about our members, their clients, and to understand the industry’s challenges at hand.
- Highly intelligent – you understand complex systems and situations quickly. You synthesize and retain information well, and use creativity to solve problems.
- Proactive – you’re independently motivated, and when you see an opportunity or issue, you’re keen to address it.
- Detail-oriented – you love analyzing contracts, legislation, and studies. You have an eagle eye for red flags and meaning, and derive satisfaction in bringing it all into focus.
Your most important quality will be your ability to read and understand people. You’ll get to know the main actors within municipal and provincial government, committees, and our member firms. You’ll learn what motivates the clients and use that knowledge to best serve our members, and work alongside them.
Working With Us
This will be a full-time, permanent position with hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, with occasional evenings and weekends. We’re offering a competitive salary that will be commensurate with your experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, RRSP matching and 3+ weeks of paid vacation. We’ll even pay for your parking!
You’ll be working with a small group of talented professionals (just seven of us in the office!), who are all encouraged to be decision markers so you’ll have plenty of impact in this role. You’ll always be working on something different, and you can bring your whole skill set to bear on your work.
We like to consider ourselves a close-knit and collaborative group, so you’ll also receive lots of support, and gain insight into all sorts of initiatives happening across multiple areas of expertise.
Qualifications
These are our must-haves:
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (political science, communications, history, etc.)
- Knowledge of government and administrative process, issues and stakeholder management
- Experience in a customer or public facing role
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office for document creation, communication and data management
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Willing and able to work outside regular office hours on occasion
- Professional-level fluency in English (written and verbal)
These would be considered assets:
- Experience working in a governmental or political context (internships included)
- Experience working with committees and volunteer boards
